Unique concert to feature on Athlone Community Radio

A unique concert showcasing and celebrating emerging talent, which took place in the Dean Crowe Theatre in February, is to be broadcast on Athlone Community Radio.

Funded by Coimisiún na Meán (Ireland’s media regulator), the 'In the Spotlight' concert is now available in eleven 30 minute episodes, the first of which will broadcast on Athlone Community Radio on Saturday next, April 13, at 6.30pm.

All eleven concerts are to be broadcast, and listeners can tune in on on 88.4fm, online athlonecommunityradio.ie and the tunein app. All episodes will also be available on mixcloud.com/AthloneCommunityRadio.

'In the Spotlight' was an amazing event that supported emerging artists on the local music scene, organised by Athlone Community Radio and Colin Fahy of local video production company Depict Media.

The episodes will feature the following artists, Martyn Cosgrave, Rachel Goode, Aishling Rafferty, Ciara Lawless and Rob Irwin. All of the artists undertook training in media skills, social media skills and video & photography. These workshops with trainer Deirdre Hunt of Athlone Community Radio and Colin Fahy of Depict Media will feature in the first five episodes.

In episode six, listeners will hear from people with experience in the music and entertainment industry, Patsy McCaul and Liz Fletcher. The artists also took part in a panel discussion, which was chaired by Colin Fahy, where they gained valuable information from radio presenters David Smyth.

The final five episodes will concentrate on live performances by all the artists involved. Each artist took to the stage with known local radio presenter, Pete Casey, and each episode will finish with a medley of their songs to showcase their amazing talents.

Watch out for this amazing series that is educational, informative and entertaining.

The artists recorded for 'In the Spotlight' are Martyn Cosgrave – a singer/songwriter from Pallas Green in Co Tipperary who is making a comeback after taking time out from his musical career to concentrate on his family, Rachel Goode- a classically trained soprano and folk singer from Ballinasloe who plans to release her first album this year.

Then there is Aisling Rafferty- one of Ireland’s newest up and coming country and Irish singing stars comes from Roscrea, and Taughmaconnell singer/songwriter Ciara Lawless, who just released her first album and Rob Irwin, a singer/songwriter and a native of Athlone. Rob performs with his brothers Conor and Dan and they are making a name for themselves around Athlone town.
