New GAA pitch earmarked for Coláiste Chiaráin

A new 4G full size GAA pitch with floodlighting is proposed for Coláiste Chiaráin in Summerhill.

Brendan Waldron, who is principal of the co-educational secondary school on the Connaught side of Athlone, recently submitted plans to Roscommon County Council for a new pitch development.

The playing facilities would also include a 1.4m high metal fence surrounding the pitch with two 13 metre high ball stops, floodlighting and a walkway around the boundaries of the new GAA pitch.

While the €20 million new school at Coláiste Chiaráin in Summerhill, came into use during the early months of the pandemic in August 2020, it was only formally opened by Bishop Kevin Doran in May of last year.

A decision is due from on the playing pitch plans by April 17 next.
