New Athlone Gardai undergo river rescue training

Gardai who are newly stationed in Athlone have been undergoing river rescue training on the River Shannon.

Photos of the training exercise were shared online by An Garda Siochana in Westmeath this week.

"Some of our welcome recent additions to Athlone Garda Station were brought up to speed by Sergeant Paul Kelly on the use of the invaluable river rescue equipment available on both banks of the River Shannon here in Athlone," stated the Garda post.

"We hope to never have cause for it to be deployed, but if called upon we'll be ready and willing to jump into action.

"Best of luck to the new arrivals to Athlone Garda Station," it concluded.
