Athlone Town women to face ex-manager Hewitt in All-Island Cup competition
The Athlone Town women's team has been drawn in the same group as Sligo Rovers, managed by the local side's former boss Tommy Hewitt, in this year's Women's All-Island Cup competition.
Athlone were drawn in Group D of the competition, along with Sligo, defending All-Island Cup champions Galway United, and Glentoran.
The All-Island Cup gets underway on Saturday, March 23, and Athlone will have one home fixture and two away games in the group stage. Full fixture details will be confirmed in due course.
After leading the Athlone Town women's team to the FAI Cup final in 2022, Tommy Hewitt resigned as manager last June and was replaced by Ciaran Kilduff.
The Athlone native was then appointed as manager of Sligo Rovers in October.
After winning the FAI Cup last November, Athlone Town will kick off the 2024 campaign by hosting league champions Peamount United in the President's Cup game on Saturday, March 2 at 5pm.
After a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Wexford last Friday, the Athlone Town men's team are on the road today (Friday) to take on Cobh Ramblers.
The game is being played at Cork City's home of Turner's Cross, due to ongoing work at Cobh's home ground, and kick off is at 7.45pm.
