Athlone's Féile na Sionainne trad music event set to return in August

Féile na Sionainne, a celebration of traditional music and dance in Athlone which was held for the first time last summer, is set to return in early August of this year.

In a social media post on Christmas Eve, the Féile na Sionainne committee passed on seasonal greetings to its sponsors, volunteers, supporters and friends, and announced that the second annual event would be happening on the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 2-4).

It also recently emerged that the Athlone River Festival, which will have a line-up of food and water-based activities, will be held on the same weekend in 2024, so it looks like the town will be a hive of activity ahead of this year's August Bank Holiday.

The inaugural Féile na Sionainne last August was organised to coincide with the staging of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Mullingar.

Held over three days, it featured an array of musical performances in and around Athlone, most of which took place under the canopy at Church Street.
