Tyrrellspass appoint new football manager

Tyrrellspass GAA has appointed former Laois U-20 football boss Eddie Kinsella as their new manager.

Kinsella succeeds Ray Sheridan, who has taken over as manager of Tubber in Offaly.

Confirming the appointment of Kinsella, Tyrrellspass GAA posted online: "Tyrrellspass GAA are delighted to announce the appointment of Eddie Kinsella as club manager. We look forward to working with Eddie and his team for the League and Championship season of 2024."

Kinsella managed Tinahely of Wicklow last year but stepped down before the club's championship campaign. He has also managed his home club Courtwood.

The Laois man is well known as a former referee at inter-county level and he took charge of the 2014 All-Ireland senior football final between Kerry and Donegal.

Tyrrellspass reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Westmeath SFC, where they were defeated by eventual champions St Loman's, Mullingar.

The men in sky blue and navy will again compete in Section A of the Westmeath SFC in 2024, alongside St Loman's, Coralstown/Kinnegad, Caulry, Athlone and Tang.

Tyrrellspass have been genuine contenders for the Flanagan Cup in recent years. Indeed, since their last senior championship success in 2007, they have suffered the bitter disappointment of losing four county finals, all of them to St Loman's (2013, 2016, 2017 and 2020).
