Passing of local businessman Sonnie Kildea

The death has been announced of hugely popular and prominent South Roscommon businessman Sonnie Kildea.

Sonnie established Kildea Concrete in the early 1990s and the company has been a significant local presence over the last 30 years.

He was a widely known figure across Roscommon, Westmeath and the wider midlands and west.

He was also prominent in the sport of handball for many years.

Sonnie, Monksland, Athlone, Co. Roscommon, passed away on St Stephen's Day peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in the tender and loving care of the management and staff of Retreat Nursing Home, Athlone. Predeceased by his parents Larry and Mai, brothers Thomas (infancy) and Tommy, sisters Irene and Evelyn and daughter-in-law Martina.

Sadly missed by his loving and heartbroken wife Joan, sons John and Larry, daughter-in-law Anna, grandchildren Darragh, Emma, Kaylee, Orla and Seán, brother Billy (Skyvalley), sisters Maureen Quigley (Cashel), Francie and Rita Lennon (Monksland), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, carer Wendy, relatives, neighbours and his many good friends.

Sonnie will repose at his home (N37 RK15) on Friday evening (December 29) from 4pm until 8pm. The funeral cortége will leave his home on Saturday morning (December 30) to arrive at SS Peter & Paul's Church, Athlone for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon followed by burial afterwards in Taughmaconnell Cemetery.
