Opening hours for Westmeath council offices, libraries and leisure centres over Christmas
Westmeath County Council has outlined detailed of its facilities' opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period.
While some local authority facilities will be closing from tomorrow (Friday) until the new year, council leisure centres and civic amenity sites will be open for spells between Christmas and 2024.
The details are as follows:
Council Civic Offices
The civic offices of Westmeath County Council in Mullingar, Athlone, and Castlepollard will be closed to the public from 4pm on Friday, December 22, and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2.
Motor Tax / Cash Office
Motor tax offices in Athlone and Mullingar will close at 1pm on Friday, December 22. The cash offices in Mullingar and Athlone will remain open until 4pm on Friday. The Motor Tax and Cash Offices in Athlone and Mullingar will reopen Tuesday, January 2.
Westmeath Libraries
All Westmeath libraries will be closed to the public from 4pm on Friday, December 22, and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2, at 9.40am
The 'My Open Library' service will be available in Castlepollard, Moate, and Mullingar Libraries throughout the Christmas period. Visit the Westmeath Culture website here for details of e-books, audiobooks, and other online resources which are available 24/7.
Athlone Regional Sports Centre
The sports centre will be open until 7pm this Friday, until 6pm this Saturday, and until 2pm on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day, before reopening (from 8.30am to 6pm) on December 27.
From December 28 to New Year's Eve, inclusive, Athlone Regional Sports Centre will be open from 8.30am to 6pm (5pm on New Year's Eve). The centre will be closed on New Year's Day and will reopen (normal opening hours) from January 2.
Athlone Recycling Centre
Athlone Recycling Centre will be open from 9-5 on December 23, and will be closed from December 24 to 26 inclusive. It will be open again, from 9-5, each day from December 27 to December 30. The centre will be closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and will reopen (normal opening hours) from January 2.
Mullingar Recycling Centre
Mullingar Recycling Centre will operate the same schedule and opening hours as Athlone Recycling Centre, above, albeit with the exception that it will be closed for one additional day (Wednesday, December 27).
Belvedere House Gardens & Park
Belvedere will be closed to the public from 3pm on Saturday, December 23, and will reopen on Wednesday, December 27, at 9.30am.
Mullingar Swimming Pool
The following opening hours will be in effect at Mullingar Swimming Pool:
December 23: 9:30am - 11am, 11:30am - 1pm; December 24-26: Closed; December 27: 11:30am - 1:00pm, 1:45pm - 3:00pm; December 28: 11am - 12pm, 12:45pm - 1:45pm, 2:30pm - 3:30pm; December 29: 11am - 12pm, 12:45pm - 1:45pm, 2:30pm - 3:30pm; December 30: 11am - 12pm, 12:45pm - 1:45pm; December 31: 11am - 12pm, 12:45pm - 1:45pm. New Year's Day: Closed. January 2: 6:30am - 7:30am, 8am - 9am, 10am - 11:30am, 12:30pm - 1:30pm, 14:30pm - 4pm, 5pm - 6pm, (6pm - 7pm adults only).
