Free Christmas parking initiative in Athlone begins this weekend

Free parking will be offered in all council-operated carparks in Athlone from this weekend in a bid to help boost pre-Christmas trade in the town.

Free parking days have been offered in council car parks in Athlone in the lead up to Christmas every year for more than a decade.

This year, the initiative begins on Saturday, December 16, and continues for a week until Saturday, December 23.

The members of the Athlone Moate Municipal District approved the initiative at their November monthly meeting.

The free parking will operate in the six town centre car parks operated by Westmeath County Council.

Motorists are advised that they will still be required to park for parking at all privately-owned car parks in Athlone , and also along 'on-street' pay zones.
