Local school plans major overhaul

Brideswell National School in South Roscommon has applied for planning permission for the construction of three new classrooms as part of a major revamp of the existing school building.

The school is seeking to convert the existing three-classroom block into the hub of a two-classroom special educational needs (SEN) base.

In a planning application lodged recently, the school also sought permission to construct a new single-storey extension, for three mainstream classes, to the rear of the existing school building.

The plans also seek to provide a new astro-pitch and associated hard and soft play areas and a new pedestrian footpath

In the planning documents, the school said the development stemmed from The National Council for Special Education approaching Brideswell NS to set up special education classes to serve the southern Roscommon area.

The two SEN classes would each cater for six students, the school said.
