Coffey's in Lecarrow hosts the opening event of the South Roscommon Singers weekend on Friday, October 27.

Countdown to South Roscommon Singers weekend in Lecarrow and Knockcroghery

The October Bank Holiday is synonymous with the South Roscommon Singers Weekend, and the villages of Lecarrow and Knockcroghery will come alive with traditional singing and craic for the three-day event.

The weekend, which draws visitors from all over Ireland and abroad every year, will begin on Friday, October 27 in Coffey's in Lecarrow from 4pm to 7pm for a gathering session and pizza party. Then from 8pm till late, the action moves to Murray's in Knockcroghery for a singing session with special guests.

Guests of honour this year include Diana Craddock from England, Janet Weatherston from Scotland and Ireland's Vincent and Pat Pierse and Leah Clarke.

On Saturday, October 28 from 2pm to 6pm, Ned's Bar in Knockcroghery will be filled with song for a session with guests. From 8pm till late, attendees will move across the road to Murray's for a singing session focusing on rugby songs and sporting ballads to coincide with the World Cup final in France.

On Sunday, the final day of the festival, the ballads will then relocate to the Railway Depot and Station House in Knockcroghery village for a special singing session and bbq from 2pm to 6pm. The final event of the weekend takes place in Murray's Knockcroghery from 7pm till late where there will be a session focussing on comic songs and storytelling. It will conclude with a presentation to the guests of honour.
