Deputy Nolan said she has been making representations on the matter following a fatal road accident in the area earlier this year.
The Independent TD said that locals have been alarmed by the tragedy and had sought assurances from her that additional safety measures would be explored.
She said she engaged with Birr Gardai and with Superintendent Alan Kerin.
“I know that he is fully aware of the dangers that exist.”
She said she had been informed by the Superintendent that his team are engaging with Offaly County Council n relation to speed limit and safety signs in the area as some signs need to be replaced, while sight lines to others need to be cleared.
“I also understand however that following recent road improvements in the area ,there are some issues in terms of safety for Gardai performing speed checks at Doon cross, but that these and other matters are going to be explored further.”
“I want to thank Birr Gardai and indeed Offaly Council and the wider community for their work in trying to improve the safety for all drivers on the N62, particularly around Doon crossroads,” concluded Deputy Nolan.
