New non-stop bus service between Athlone and Dublin now running

A new Citylink bus route, which offers a non-stop service between Athlone and Dublin city and airport, commenced this week.

The company's route 721, from Castlebar to Dublin Airport, was announced last month and became operational on Monday.

The route provides six services per day in each direction, and is non-stop between Athlone (TUS/Smyth's Toys stop) and the capital.

The route's six daily buses from Athlone to Dublin are scheduled to depart at 02.45, 06.00, 09.55, 12.50, 16.40 and 18.50.

Citylink said the new route "forms part of our strategic expansion programme for 2023/24".

At a photo-shoot to launch the route, Vincent Harrison, Chief of Commercial and Development at the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA), welcomed the new service.

"Citylink is one of the largest operators connecting Dublin Airport with counties across the West and Midlands, and we are positive that our passengers will welcome this additional connectivity to Mayo, Galway and Westmeath.

"Every day, Dublin Airport welcomes passengers from all 32 counties in Ireland. This new route will help support more passengers make the switch to public transport when travelling to and from Dublin Airport," said Mr Harrison.

Citylink said it was "delighted to increase its volume of services in the the Midland region as the addition of this new route increases services to 25+ daily services to or from Athlone."
