Tubberclair seek second successive intermediate final

Tubberclair will this Sunday seek to get back to the intermediate football championship decider after last year’s final defeat to Shandonagh, following a replay.

The intermediate championship semi-final between Tubberclair and St Malachy’s throws in on Sunday at TEG Cusack Park at 2.30pm.

Although Tubberclair finished top of Section A, their form in recent championship outings has been somewhat unconvincing. Having won their first three games, they then lost to Milltown and edged out Ballymore by the skin of their teeth.

However, with the championship now entering the concluding stages, Tubberclair will be aiming to hit peak form as they bid to go one better than last year. The signs are that they will face a formidable challenge from a St Malachy’s outfit which includes versatile Westmeath regular David Lynch.

St Malachy’s are the only team in this year’s intermediate or senior championships to have won all their games. The Castletown/Dysart side overcame Rosemount at the quarter-final stage.

The other semi-final on Saturday is between Milltown and Milltownpass, who were impressive in the second half of their quarter-final win over Castledaly.
