Local film festival announces this year will be its last

An annual Midlands film festival, which started in 2014, has announced that this year's event will be its last.

The Ballymahon-based Still Voices Film Festival broke the news in a post on social media earlier today (Monday).

The statement issued on behalf of the festival team said the decision to discontinue it had been "difficult" and was prompted by a number of factors.

"Unfortunately, due to several contributing factors, this year's festival will be the last. While this was a difficult decision for us to make, it is the correct one," the statement read.

"What started in 2014 as a small one-night event for locals grew into this great celebration of cinema in the midlands.

"We want to thank every filmmaker who submitted a film to us for consideration over the last nearly ten years and everyone who attended the festival for making Still Voices what it is.

"This isn't how we planned for the festival to end, but we hope you'll join us in November for one last hurrah!"

The final Still Voices Film Festival is taking place from November 15-19, and the event's website can be found here.
