Athlone Film Club's screenings take place in the Dean Crowe Theatre.

Athlone Film Club returning for first time since pandemic

Three and a half years on from its last screening, Athlone Film Club will be returning to the Dean Crowe Theatre in September.

The club, which screens arthouse and foreign language movies that generally don't make it to mainstream cinemas, announced its schedule for the 2023-2024 season in recent days.

It will be hosting six screenings in total, with one per month between September and February.

Athlone Film Club said the new season will feature a selection of "exciting and thought-provoking" films.

It gets underway on Tuesday, September 12, with a showing of Moroccan drama The Blue Caftan, which was shortlisted for this year's Oscars in the 'International Feature Film' category.

The subsequent screenings will be: Plan 75 (October 10), The Beasts (November 14), War Pony (December 12), Harka (January 16) and The Night of the 12th (February 13).

For each of the screenings, doors will open at 7.30pm, and the film will start at 8pm. The cost is €10 per film, cash only.
