Staff at Athlone Woodie's branch raise over €6,000 in charity initiative

Staff at the Woodie's store in Athlone helped raise more than €6,000 for four very worthy causes in the last four weeks.

As part of the ninth annual Woodie’s Heroes campaign, the Dublin Road, Athlone, outlet raised €6,224 with help from customers, colleagues and suppliers.

This money will now be divided equally among ISPCC Childline, Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Down Syndrome Ireland, and Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Woodie’s Heroes was established in 2015 and has raised over €3 million for Irish children's charities. This year's fundraising is expected to see that figure grow closer to €3.5 million.

Customers donated throughout the campaign by adding a donation in-store at the till, online at woodies.ie, or by text.

The cheque for the €6,224 raised at the Athlone store will be shared between ISPCC Childline, Autism Dogs Assistance Ireland, Down Syndrome Ireland and Make A Wish Ireland.

A statement from Woodie's said the team in Athlone was overjoyed by the generosity and support shown to them during the campaign by the local community, and that they wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated.

A similar amount - €6,506 - was raised during the campaign at the Woodie's store in Mullingar.

The company said the €12,730 raised across the two Westmeath stores would make a meaningful difference to the children and families who are supported by the four benefiting charities.
