Weekend fire destroys large quantity of hay

A substantial amount of hay was destroyed in a fire at two barns in the Bonavalley area at the weekend.

Ferbane Fire Brigade responded to a call at 6.30am on Saturday morning, before one unit of Athlone Fire Brigade took over around 8am.

Gardaí also attended the scene of the fire in the Bonavalley area.

Several hundred bales of hay were thought to be destroyed in the barn blaze.
