Council flies Pride flags in Athlone

Pride flags are being officially flown in Athlone currently, on foot of a motion by Green Party Cllr Louise Heavin.

Cllr Heavin, recently elected as the new Mayor of Athlone/Moate Municipal District, said: "'I was heartened by the full support of the membership of the council for my motion to fly Pride flags around the town.

"This is the first time for the district to raise these flags. As Mayor of Athlone-Moate I am please to show how the town is inclusive and supportive of our LGBTQ+ community. I will continue to support the work of Midlands LGBT+ Project, ARC and TUS in my coming term and I hope that this is the first of many things we do as a council during Pride month every year."
