Westmeath ladies launch their club championships

Westmeath LGFA held this year’s club championship draws in TEG Cusack Park recently, and the gathering was an opportunity to meet some of the players who will contest this year’s championships and to acknowledge the support of the many sponsors.

Geraldine Giles, Westmeath LGFA chairperson, said she was delighted to hold the launch in TEG Cusack Park.

Each of the clubs were represented by players on the evening and there was a friendly vibe to the occasion, before the real action begins on the playing field in the coming weeks. The championship will commence after Westmeath have completed their TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship campaign.

“It’s great that we get an opportunity like this evening to be here in our county grounds, launching our championship and the clubs are looking forward to the draw. They are keen to know who they will be facing in the weeks ahead,” said Ms Giles.

“We’re delighted that all our sponsors are here, from senior right down to junior club championships. David Smith Catering is the new sponsor of the Westmeath senior championship and he has strong connections with Westmeath having catered for the county’s senior team for a number of years.

“Wright Windows are the sponsors of the intermediate championship and Eoin Clarke Solicitors are sponsors of the junior championship. We are delighted they are all with us here at the launch, as is Jim Bourke from Mullingar Autos who sponsors our van.”

The chairperson called on all supporters to get behind the local championships once they begin.

“It is important to get that support. These girls have put a lot of time and effort in and not only that, you will be surprised to see the quality of football you are going to get over the coming months.

“We will have our club series running through July and August and we’d be delighted to see everyone getting out and supporting the girls. If you come and support these teams, we will guarantee you value for money.”
