Global company with Athlone site announces 6,000 job losses

3M, which owns the former KCI facility in the IDA Business & Technology Park, Athlone, yesterday announced plans to cut 6,000 jobs globally.

It's not known what, if any, impact the move will have on its Athlone workforce.

As well as a manufacturing facility in Athlone, the company also has operations in Dublin.

The company said its restructuring actions are intended to make 3M "stronger, leaner and more focused."

It said the restructuring would impact 6,000 positions globally, in addition to the reduction of 2,500 global manufacturing roles announced in January.
