Colour run fundraiser for Turkey and Syria to be held in Athlone

The Festival Of Colour, a 5k colour run, will take place in Athlone to fundraise in aid of the charity GOAL's work with communities in Turkey and Syria following the recent earthquake.

The Festival Of Colour is a 5K, untimed event where anyone can take part by either running or walking. There will be stations at different points throughout the course where participants will be doused from head to toe in colored powder. For maximum color impact they suggest wearing white clothes. Wearing sunglasses is strongly recommended to prevent participants from getting powder in their eyes. Once the race is over, the fun will continues at the finish line with music and treats.

GOAL teams are working on the ground in Turkey and Syria with local communities to provide shelter, blankets, heating, food and clean water to families who have lost their homes.GOAL was chosen as the charity for the fundraiser as 28 of their workers lost their lives during the recent earthquake.

The colour run has taken inspiration from the Indian spring festival, Holi, which is widely known as the Festival of Colors, as it involves the throwing of gulal (colored powder) and water.

The colour fun run will take place in Athlone Regional Sports Centre on Sunday, April 16 at 2pm. It's suitable for all ages with special pricing for families. Family tickets cost €20, adult tickets are €10 and students can participate for just €5. To register for the run visit eventcreate.com/festivalofcolourathlone.
