New greenway coffee shop to be open shortly
A new coffee shop along the old Rail Trail in Streamstown is expected to open before St Patrick's Day.
Westmeath County Council recently granted a five-year licence for the operation of the venture to Jacqueline Muldoon from Tubber.
Asked by Cllr Tom Farrell at the February meeting of the Athlone/Moate Municipal District recently for an opening date for the coffee shop and toilets, Westmeath County Council confirmed the facilities would be open before the St Patrick's weekend.
The concept of a coffee shop derived from the refurbishment of the old rail station at Streamstown and the former toilet block in recent years.
The council early in 2022 then sought expressions of interest from companies or individuals looking to operate a coffee shop at the building. It had been anticipated it would be open to the public by last summer, but it later transpired the preferred operator had withdrawn.
The council readvertised the opportunity in November last and recently recommended the councillors approve the proposal to offer the five-year licence to Ms Muldoon.
