by Emma Hickey

Castledaly teenager Jacob Hickey has made his acting debut in Channel 5’s psychological thriller The Catch, playing the young son of the protagonist in the four-part series.

Fourteen-year-old Jacob is a third year student at Athlone Community College, and secured his role in the series after applying online to a casting notice looking for a young boy who was a strong sea swimmer.

The series is an adaption from a book of the same name by T.M. Logan, and stars Jason Watkins as Ed, a haunted fisherman grieving the loss of his young son Josh (Jacob Hickey). The series focuses on Ed’s obsession with his daughter Abbie’s (Poppy Gilbert) new relationship with the mysterious Ryan (Aneurin Barnard) and his investigation into the man he thinks is not who he says he is.

Jacob’s mother, Jacinta Hickey, was his chaperone on the series.

Set in south-west England, filming for the series took place last year in Dublin and Bray, and the series aired from January 25 until February 15 on Channel 5.

It is currently available to watch on Channel 5’s website and app.
