Two Athlone Town games set for TG4 coverage

Two Athlone Town games are among the initial four selected by TG4 for live coverage in the 2023 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.

Athlone's away fixtures against Wexford Youths (Ferrycarrig Park, Saturday, April 15) and Bohemians on May 20 will be shown on TG4. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 7.35pm.

The other games confirmed for coverage on TG4 are Shelbourne v Shamrock Rovers on March 18 and Shamrock Rovers v Peamount United on June 10.

Athlone finished second behind league champions Shelbourne last season, and Tommy Hewitt's side also lost out to Shels in the FAI Women's Cup final.

TG4’s coverage of the Women’s Premier Division began in 2021 and the 2023 season will see a further increase in coverage with 12 live games to be shown this year.

The Sacar Beo programme will once again be broadcast on TG4 and globally on the TG4 Player App, with detailed analysis and live interviews complementing the match coverage.

TG4’s Head of Sport, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said: “TG4 are looking forward to broadcasting the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division on free-to-air television again for the coming season and this live coverage strengthens the station’s commitment to women’s football. We have an exciting year ahead for women’s football and the live television coverage of the Women's Premier Division will be available to viewers far and wide.”

League of Ireland Director Mark Scanlon said: “The title race has gone to the wire in each of the last two seasons and the TG4 cameras have been on hand to capture all of the drama and high quality action and so we are looking forward to the 2023 season being even bigger and better than ever before.”
