Food recall notice for some expired raw chicken products
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a food safety recall notice for various raw chicken products due to the presence of Salmonella Typhimurium
It said the company Western Brand is recalling expired batches of raw chicken products listed in the table below due to the detection of Salmonella Typhimurium.
These products were sold as fresh and are past their use-by date, however, the labels state they are suitable for home freezing. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.
Consumers are advised not to eat the affected batches, should they have them in their freezers.
The FSAI advise that people infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.
The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
The recalled products and the stores in which they are stocked are listed below.
