Good turnout for meeting to set up Moate Town Team

A meeting this week about setting up a 'town team' to help progress regeneration plans for Moate attracted a strong turnout.

Moate was chosen as the first town in Westmeath to be the focus of rejuvenation efforts under the Government's 'Town Centre First' policy.

A meeting was held in Moate Library on Wednesday evening to inform the public about the initiative and to start the process of establishing a town team drawn from various sectors of the local community.

Minister of State Peter Burke was among those in attendance on Wednesday, and said he was encouraged by the turnout at the event.

"I'm looking forward to working with and supporting a town team to get the views and thoughts of locals to help steer Moate into the future," he said.

He added that the ultimate aim of the initiative was to make Moate a town where people "want to work, live, visit and invest".
