Westmeath pub's Christmas video featuring cover of Slade song goes viral
A fun Christmas video recorded in Egan’s pub in Mount Temple has gone viral after streaming on Mount Temple Christmas Lights online show hosted from New York by Padraig Allen.
The video was filmed by local man Tom Daly who tells the story of four locals discussing their favourite Christmas song. Between the clip and the full show, there has been over 20,000 views since the show streamed virtually on Saturday, December 3.
In the video one local man said: “I see they're putting up the Christmas lights again. We won't feel the auld Christmas.”
Niall Slevin asked the other men in the pub what their favourite Christmas song was before the group settled on Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade. Niall said: “Could you imagine if Slade played live in Mount Temple? Some craic.”
The group then donned some eccentric, colourful attire much like Slade in their hugely popular music video before performing the hit Christmas track in Egan's pub. To date the video has been viewed 6.5 thousand times on Facebook.
The video featured the musical stylings of Shane Dolan, Shay Hickey, Enda Dolan and Niall Slevin.
Padraig Allen then signed off on the video and said: “Who would have ever thought Tom Daly could get Slade to play in Egan's pub in Mount Temple?”
The entertaining video and performance was also done in conjunction with the fundraiser set up in aid of Mount Temple Christmas Lights. Donations will go towards the setting up and running of the Christmas lights in Mount Temple village.
Mount Temple Village Lights hope to reach a target of and they have raised €1,415 to date.
