Nothing Lucky about home win for Midland Warriors
Midland Warriors claimed a home victory over Ardee on Sunday last, a game that ended 36-7 in favour of the Moate-based side.
The Midlands men started as they meant to go on, strong and in sync. They handled the ball well and, 20 minutes in, the Warriors had two tries, with one of them being converted.
The first try came after a lovely pass to Jimmy O'Connell, who then touched down confidently right between the posts. This was converted by Paul Dunican.
The second try was as a result of a brilliant run by Liam Fitzpatrick, one of many in this league so far. Keith McKiernan added to the scoreline 15 minutes later with another try also converted by Dunican as the Warriors really showed their strength in their scrums. The unity of the team was definitely at play here.
Just before half-time, the lads got their bonus point thanks to a fourth try coming from O'Connell, once again converted by Dunican.
In the second half the Warriors remained focussed and it wasn't long until they racked up two more tries, both scored by winger Gavin Byrne. With a few penalties awarded against the Warriors, Ardee came back with a try and a conversion before the full-time whistle.
The work put in by the Warriors was immense, with strong and confident tackles made by everyone but, in particular, by Eoin Hennessy Thornton, Dan Heffernan and Julio Jardim.
Lucky Oviawe was named player of the match after he showed true determination and strength in both defending and attacking. Every player on the pitch played a big role.
The Midland Warriors now look forward to their next game away this Sunday, December 4th against Ratoath.
