Rosemount community mourns untimely passing of former GAA club chairman

Rosemount GAA Club said it was deeply saddened by the untimely passing of its former chairman, dedicated clubman and player, Michael (Mixie) Molloy.

Mixie was laid to rest earlier today (Wednesday) following a funeral Mass at the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Ballymore.

Formerly of Newtown, Rosemount, he passed away at his residence in Keenogue, Ballymore, on Monday after a short illness bravely borne.

His death is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Josie (Gibney), his three beautiful girls Sinead, Ciara and Ailish, sisters Kathleen (O'Connor), Geraldine (Keane), Liza (O'Connor) and Imelda, brothers Seamus, Sean and Joseph, father-in-law Sean, mother-in-law Nancy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and a wide circle of friends.

In a statement, Rosemount GAA Club outlined how Mixie had played at wing back on the Rosemount team which won the Westmeath senior championship in 1989.

He went on to become chairman of the club from 2003 to 2008, and in this role he "worked tirelessly in the development of new facilities within our club and was involved with redevelopment of our new pitch, the astro turf and walking track, and was also heavily involved in the lotto committee."

Rosemount GAA extended its deepest sympathies to Mixie's wife, daughters, sisters, brothers, relatives and friends.
