Caravan destroyed in early morning fire

A caravan was destroyed in an early morning fire in Parnell Square.

Emergency services were mobilised just before 7am, to deal with a caravan ablaze in the garden of a house in the estate on the Connaught side of the town.

The ESB was also mobilised to cut the power to the house. Gardaí also attended the scene.

While the caravan was destroyed, luckily, the fire didn't spread to the house or nearby homes in what is a very built up area.

Athlone Fire Services returned to base just after 8am after the blaze was fully extinguished.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Gardaí have launched an investigation.
