SOCCER: Roscommon & District League Round-up

In the Norio's Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League, Ballinasloe Town closed the gap on leaders Boyle Celtic to three points with a game in hand, following a 2-0 home win over Moore United last weekend.

Ryan Burke gave the home side a 1-0 lead after seven minutes of play and Liam Lynch added a second in first-half stoppage time.

St John's Athletic moved into fourth place in this division thanks to a hard earned 2-1 win over Cloonfad United at Lecarrow.

Tiernan Murphy gave Cloonfad a 1-0 lead after 27 minutes and they were very unlucky not to go two up. Tommy Hurley levelled the game with 60 played and in time added on at the end of the game, Darren Carroll snatched all three points for the winners.

In Division 1, Skyvalley Rovers kept their title hopes very much alive when they beat Roscommon United 5-2 at the League grounds in Lecarrow.

The Roscommon town side were on top in the first half and fully deserved their half-time lead of 2-1. Vando Silva scored their two goals. Man of the match Callum O'Brien scored four goals for Skyvalley and Tom Butler added a fifth.

Glen Celtic beat second placed C P Ajax 1-0 at Glenamaddy. Ryan McHugh scored for the winners with 24 played, with the Castleplunket side missing a penalty kick after 70 minutes.

In the third round of the Joe's Bar Challenge Cup, Division 1 side Shiven Rovers beat Premier side Castlerea Celtic 4-2 at Castlerea.

Ballinasloe Town's second side beat Premier Division side Ballaghaderreen 2-1. Bruce Holton gave Ballaghaderreen a 1-0 lead with 25 played. In the second half, Dylan Keane levelled the game and Joe O'Brien scored the winner for the home side.

Ballaghaderreen took a major step towards winning the Division 2 title when they beat nearest challengers Skyvalley Rovers 4-2 in their replayed game at Taughmaconnell.

Ben Feeley gave the visitors a 1–0 lead with 43 played, but David Grehan levelled the game a minute later. Keelan Feeley and John Higgins added two more for the winners early in the second half. David Grehan pulled one back from the penalty spot after Darragh Moore was fouled, but Chris Dunne sealed the win with a fine strike near the end.
