Indoor astro turf proposed for Athlone

A former tile centre in Athlone could get a new lease of life as an indoor astroturf pitch, which it's believed would be a first of its kind in the Midlands.

Fog Ltd has signalled plans to submit an application to Westmeath County Council seeking approval to change the use of a tile centre into a new gymnasium, which will include a new indoor astroturf pitch and dressing rooms, at Grace Road, Athlone.

Toilet facilities, external signage, alterations to elevations, and internal/external site works are also included in the new proposal revealed in a new planning notice.

A relatively new facility in Ireland, the nearest indoor astroturf pitches are located in Navan, Limerick and Dublin, with the majority of astroturf pitches across the country based outdoors.
