Dylan Gavin.

Gavin picked for Ireland U-19 training camp

Dylan Gavin was included in a UK-based training camp with the Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad ahead of next month’s European Championship Elite Round qualifiers.

The Athlone native was one of four forwards chosen for the three-day training camp which began earlier this week in Loughborough, England.

In total, 24 players were called up for the camp, which finishes with a behind-closed-doors friendly today (Wednesday).

Gavin recently embarked on a loan move from Charlton Athletic to Billericay Town. Based in Essex, Billericay are currently members of the National League South, the sixth tier of English football.

The striker's move is due to last until February 19. Gavin started his career with St Francis and the former Marist College student also starred at underage level with Athlone Town before moving to England.

Gavin is one of a number of young Charlton players who took up loan deals in January.

Ireland head coach Tom Mohan will use the training camp as an opportunity to consider his options ahead of the three Elite Round games and follows an assessment day hosted in Dundalk last week.

Ireland face hosts England (March 23), Portugal (March 26) and Armenia (March 29) as they bid to qualify for this summer’s championships which are being hosted in Slovakia.
