Higher toll charges on M6 and M4
Athlone drivers heading to Galway or Dublin will have to contend with higher tolls in 2022.
TII, formerly the NRA, confirmed following a query from the Westmeath Independent that the charge on the M6 and M4 stretches for cars rose by ten cents on January 1 last.
For Galway-bound drivers, that fee is now €2, while those heading for the capital on the M4 will pay a whopping €3 each way.
Tolls on eight motorways increased this year, but a TII spokesperson was at pains to point out that it was the first increase for cars in nine years.
Seven out of the eight stretches will see a ten cents rise, and they are the M4, M1, M6, M7/M8, N8 and N25
The increase in 2022 toll charges is driven by inflation, TII added, explaining that they have been calculated based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as of August 2021.
Tolls will not increase for cars on the M3 in 2022. Tolls have not changed for the Dublin Tunnel since 2010 - and will remain at €10 (peak hours) and €3 (all other times).
Tolls on the M50 will not increase this year for what is termed ‘On Board Unit Registered Vehicles’ but will increase by 10 cents for ‘Video Account Registered Vehicles’ (from €2.60 to €2.70) and ‘Other Vehicles’ will go from €3.10 to €3.20.
