Irish Rail announces disruptions to a number of Athlone services this weekend

Irish Rail has announced a number of disruptions to its routes which service Athlone this weekend as a result of planned engineering works.

On Saturday October 2, as well as on November 6, November 20 and December 4, the following services will be cancelled:

- 17:10 Dublin Heuston to Athlone

- 18:30 Dublin Heuston to Galway

Also on October 2, the 17:30 Heuston to Galway service will be altered with bus transfers from Heuston to Tullamore and Athlone, second bus transfer from Heuston to Clara and Athlone and a third bus transfer from Portarlington to Tullamore and Athlone. A train will then depart Athlone at 19:45 from Athlone heading towards Galway.

On the same day, the 19:35 Heuston to Galway will be bus transfers direct from Heuston to Athlone, second bus transfer from Heuston to Tullamore and Athlone, third bus transfer from Portarlington to Tullamore and Athlone, with a train at 21:35 from Athlone to Galway.

A number of Galway to Heuston routes, which service Athlone, have also been altered:

- 15:05 Galway to Heuston will operate to Athlone only, with bus transfers direct from Athlone to Heuston, second bus transfer from Athlone to Clara, Tullamore, Portarlington, Kildare, Newbridge and Heuston.

- 17:20 Galway to Heuston will operate to Athlone only, with bus transfers direct from Athlone to Heuston, second bus transfer from Athlone to Tullamore, Portarlington, Kildare, Newbridge and Heuston.

- 19:20 Galway to Heuston will operate to Athlone only, with bus transfers direct from Athlone to Heuston, second bus transfer from Athlone to Clara, Tullamore, Portarlington, Monasterevin, Kildare, Newbridge, Sallins and Heuston.

Also, the following services between Heuston and Westport have been altered.

- 18:15 Heuston to Westport will be bus transfers direct from Heuston to Athlone, second bus transfer from Heuston to Tullamore and Athlone, train at 20:15 from Athlone to Westport.

- 18:20 Westport to Heuston will operate to Athlone only, with bus transfers direct from Athlone to Heuston, second bus transfer from Athlone to Clara, Tullamore, Portarlington and Heuston.

On Sunday, October 3, the following disruptions will be in place:

- 09:40 Athlone to Westport is deferred to 10:06

- 11:00 Galway to Heuston is deferred to 11:35
