Joe Ward to fight unbeaten American in New York next month
Tory 'The Humble Beast' Williams, a Louisiana-based boxer with an unbeaten record, will be Joe Ward's opponent when the local man returns to the ring in The Theater at Madison Square Garden early next month.
Ward is currently training in Mexico and told the Westmeath Independent his preparations have been going well ahead of the fight in New York City on Tuesday, August 3.
His opponent is the owner of a gym in Mandeville, Louisiana, and has a record of five wins and one draw in his six contests to date.
However, all of his bouts so far have taken place within his home State, and his last fight was over two years ago when he drew with Manjaro Hills in a six-rounder in New Orleans in June 2019.
Ward, who defeated Californian Marco Delgado in their rematch in March, said this fight would be "another good test for me," and he wasn't keen on facing opponents who have lots of losses on their record.
"Training has been going well. I've had some really good sparring sessions," he said earlier today.
The August 3 show will be the first night of professional boxing in New York City since the start of the pandemic, with US heavyweight contender Michael Hunter taking on Mike Wilson in the main event.
The bouts are due to be streamed on FITE and Triller TV.
