Lockdown photo competition winners revealed

In recent weeks, the Westmeath Independent invited entries to a lockdown photography competition through our social media channels, in particular, our Facebook page.

We were inundated with photographs from our readers and social media followers and published a large percentage of the photos submitted over the last three issues.

We asked our staff to select their favourite eight photos and then having compiled the overall top eight, we asked staff to then choose their favourite three photos. We are now delighted to announce the top three.

In first place was Jackie Killian's stunning portrait of her husband Darran and their sons (Oisín, Ciarán and Finn) walking across a frozen patch of lake at Muckanagh.

In second place was Kelley Mulvany's fabulous photo of her daughter Maisie-Jo on Lough Owel.

And in third place was Bridget Neville's fine study of a robin in her garden in Mullingar.

Below we reproduce the three prize winners:

We will be in touch with the top three photographers to arrange a presentation of their prizes (One4All vouchers) when travel restrictions and social distancing arrangements are eased.

Congratulations to our eight finalists, and in particular, to our top three and sincere thanks to all who entered. We hope our readers have enjoyed the variety of images and the undoubted talent of the photographers displayed in our pages in recent weeks.
