Shopfront enhancement scheme reopens

Westmeath County Council has a new Shopfront Enhancement Scheme, with a with a grant of up to €2,500 available for traders to enhance their business premises.

Eligible works under the scheme include repainting of shopfronts, repair and reinstatement of shop fronts including the first and upper floors of premises (subject to the associated ground floor unit being in commercial use), reinstatement of architectural or historic features, repair and reinstatement of guttering and downpipes, repainting and/or re-rendering of prominent elevations, repair of external stonework and brickwork.

Other works include the removal of neon signs, banners or other inappropriate signage and replacement with signage in line with the Westmeath County Development Plan standards, and permanent removal of external security shutters and installation of suitable replacements.

Applications can be made through the Westmeath Local Enterprise Office. Third party costs only will be considered. Should applicants wish to undertake work themselves a grant will be paid towards material costs only
