Warning after family pet shot with pellet gun

A Coosan family has warned pet-owners to be on the alert after their little dog was shot and badly injured in a malicious attack at the weekend. The shocked owner of the ten-year-old Jack Russell/Corgie cross believes that he was lured off with food, before being shot once with a pellet gun in a random attack. Maireád Mallon let her dog Jakie outside for his usual bedtime run last Saturday night, but became concerned when he didn't return as usual when called. “I have a three and a half year old so I couldn't just leave the house but there was no sign of him,†she explained. “I went back down at 1.30am and he was at the back door, whining and shaking uncontrollably, he was bleeding from near his back leg at his abdomen.†It took some time for Maireád to get the bleeding to stop and she took Jakie to the vet on Sunday. The vet took X-rays in a bid to discover what caused such heavy bleeding. “He's 100% sure that he was shot with a hunter's pellet. It went in one side and travelled across to the other side, it's a pellet designed to cause as much damage as possible. The X-rays also found chicken bones in his stomach and I never feed him chicken, so it looks like he was lured off with food and then shot. What kind of a person does that to an animal?â€
