Boxer's message on his last day in political office
Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran has said he leaves political life “knowing in my heart that I remain proud of what I achieved for the people”.
In a post on his Facebook page this afternoon, he said with a new Government coming into being later this evening, today marked his last day as Minister of State for the OPW and Flood Relief.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone I had the honour and privilege to work for over the past 21 years in public life and, in particular, during the last four years when I was honoured to have been elected to Dail Eireann and to serve as a Minister of State.
“Serving the people and doing the best you can for them and trying to make people's lives better is what I always tried to do in politics.
He said he wanted to thank all who had assisted him in public life over the past two decades, public officials, both local and national, and to his own staff for their dedication.
“I also, of course, want to say special thanks to my own family, my wife Michelle and our two sons, Jamie and John, who sacrificed so much of our time together while I was in political life
He said he wanted to wish the incoming Government every good wish in the difficult years to come.
“There will be many difficult decisions to be made and I hope those elected now for Longford-Westmeath will protect the interests of those who elected them. I leave knowing in my heart that I remain proud of what I achieved for the people I served. Slán a chairde and slán a fhágáil.
