Dún na Sí prepares for the winter
Congratulations to Moate Comhaltas member Audrey Murphy, a noted whistle player, who won a 1st and 2nd at the All Ireland Fleadh 2012 in Cavan. Congratulations also go to Moate Comhaltas member Sharleen McCaffrey who is now the All Ireland Sean Nós dancing champion for 2012. These two ladies were featured in the Westmeath Independent last week. The winter is definitely approaching when the children are returning to school and Dún na Sí is preparing to build on the success of the summer seisúns. Registration for the many activities held at Dún na Sí during the autumn and winter months is imminent and this is an ideal opportunity to get rid of the cobwebs and participate in a variety of very rewarding and social activities. On Tuesday, September 4 newly crowned all Ireland champion Sharleen McCaffrey will be taking names for the sean nós dancing and junior set dancing classes, registration commences at 6pm. Contact Sharleen at 086 3911128 for further details. On Wednesday, September 5, the Ganley/Reynolds school are back with their dancing class which starts at 7pm. Also on Wednesday there is a Karate Class at Dún na Sí which starts at 5.30pm. On Thursday, September 6 there is a Pilates class which starts at 7pm. Contact Nicola at 087 9722110 for details. On Monday, September 10, a music class for beginners and advanced starts at 5pm. The very popular adult set dancing class also resumes on Monday, September 10, starting at 8.30pm. Friday of next week September 7 sees the return of the Brian Boru Céilí Band for the September set Céilí which takes place from 9pm to midnight. A full and varied programme is in store with many more enjoyable evenings yet to be planned as the timber is dried out and the big open hearth is prepared for the cold winter evenings.
