Politics revolution civil war in old athlone

Anyone with an interest in local history is likely to be fascinated by Athlone native John Burke’s new book - ‘Athlone 1900–1923: Politics, Revolution and Civil War’ - which is being launched at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Thursday (April 2) from 7.30pm to 9pm.

The book is billed as possibly the most detailed analysis ever completed of an Irish provincial town during this tumultuous time in Irish history. It is being published by The History Press.

John Burke is a graduate of GMIT and NUI Galway. His latest book ‘Athlone: 1900–1923’ is priced at €25, and is a 400-page paperback with illustrations, and copies purchased on the night will be signed.
