A pictorial record of Moate at a moment in time

A Day in the Life of Moate was conceived as a means of recording the life of our town and at the same time raising some much needed funds for the tidy towns committee. May 23 was selected as the date and people were encouraged to go forth and record the town on that particular day. The prize giving took place last Thursday night in Moate Library where librarian and historian Gearoid O'Brien who presented the prizes, told the assembled audience that their work would be held by the library as a record for future generations and would be available to researchers. The winning picture was taken by Dominic Conway, using a tripod at night, Dominic left the shutter exposed for 20 seconds and captured a great view from the bridge over the new by pass. Peter Abel was the winner in the OAP section with a view of the Moate Castle grounds showing a very content flock of sheep on a balmy summer day, yes, May 23 was a balmy summer's day. Peter took the opportunity to thank the organisers of the competition and complimented the Tidy Towns group who he said "were starting to make an impact in the town". Juvenile winner Mairead Mc Cormack captured a beautiful garden scene with a white pony as the centre of her picture. This picture looked like something that would have been appropriate in a Beatrix Potter publication. Local librarian Lorna Farrell and Tidy Towns representative Katharine Ross were there to oversee the display and the light refreshments were much appreciated by all.
