Limerick troubadour Peter Delaney

Talented folk acts at Passionfruit tonight

Four of Ireland's top up-and-coming folk acts will appear in the Passionfruit Theatre, Athlone, this evening (Friday). Limerick troubadour Peter Delaney will be joined by Galway acts Yawning Chasm and Brigid Power Ryce as well as Athlone act The Driftwood Manor. Peter Delaney is a Limerick born songwriter who draws inspiration from traditional songs and old folk music as well as the lilting melancholy of vintage Hawaiian recordings. In 2007, Peter self-released his debut mini album 'Duck Egg Blue' which has received regular airplay in Ireland, England, Holland and Australia and was re-released through Deadslackstring Records in June 2011. In November 2008, Peter joined Oscar-winners The Swell Season as support act on the Irish leg of their European tour and was invited by Donal Dineen to play the main Body & Soul stage at Electric Picnic the same year. In 2009 he played the VPRO Dwars festival and radio session in Amsterdam with other radio sessions including Donal Dineens Midsummer Sundays on Today fm and Blue Of The Night on Lyric fm. Yawning Chasm is a three-piece band based in Galway. Made up of Aaron Coyne (vocals, tenor guitar), Declan Kelly (keyboards, guitar) and Jimmy Monaghan (drums) Yawning Chasm began in the early 2000's as the stage name for Aaron's solo recordings and performances. Two albums - 'Snarl' and 'The Shadow is That Hidden' - recorded in this period can be downloaded for free from yawningchasm.bandcamp.com. Declan joined Aaron in the winter of 2010 and in 2012 they began work on recording a series of four limited-edition EPs. They've also started work on an album of entirely new material, to be released next year. Brigid Power Ryce is one of the finest performers to emerge from Ireland in many years, with an astonishing vocal range and fantastic guitar skills. She has released a number of EPs and has performed regularly across Ireland, Britain and the United States. The opening act on the bill will be local act The Driftwood Manor who take in a wide range of influences from Irish traditional music to American folk, bluegrass, Eastern music and alternative rock as well as many others. Doors are 8pm sharp and admission is just €5.
