Molloy progresses to take on David Nevin
Gary Molloy continued on his winning way last weekend when he won his first round in the All Ireland Intermediate boxing championships. A devastating opening minute saw Gary build an 8-0 lead over Shane Bohan from the Southpaw Club in Galway before the referee stepped in and brought a halt to the proceedings. Gary did all that was required on the night but might have benefited from a stronger test. His opponent next weekend is old adversary David Nevin from the Cavan boxing club. Nevin will be keen to avenge the defeat he suffered at the hands of Molloy in their all Ireland final at 48kg last March and after an impressive performance last weekend when he defeated Anthony O"Brien from Baldoyle by 11-1 Nevin will be in a confident mood. Coach Seamus Dorrington is happy that Gary is a much improved boxer since last March but is concerned about the easy manner of his first round victory and the sharpness Nevin will have gained by going the distance. Meanwhile, up to 18 people are training in the club on any given night and the younger boxers are taking part in the Kildare league where both Joe Joyce and Johnny Joyce were winners in recent contests.
