Simply the Best
Two Summerhill students will have the honour of performing at the Irish Entertainment Awards at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone on October 20. The awards are being held to recognise the services given by entertainers who don't usually get the credit they deserve for their hard work in entertaining thousands of people across the Ireland. Athlone native and event organiser Desi Egan - a highly-respected producer and band manager - is one of the key figures behind the event. Desi was a judge at the Simply The Best Talent competition at Our Lady's Bower, organised by Laura Greene from National Association of Traveller Centre in Athlone last Spring. Contestants from the five secondary schools in Athlone battled it out for the Simply the Best title. Dynamic duo Eadaoin Tivenan and Caoimhe Croasdell won the competition and as part of their prize, the girls were invited to perform at the awards being held on October 20 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone. Desi felt that the girls had such great talent and was delighted to give them the opportunity to perform in front of a number of very influential people in the music industry in Ireland. Desi will also mentor the girls over the next few weeks in preparation for the event. Newly-appointed principal of St Joseph's College, Summerhill, Liam Nally is thrilled that the girls will be given this fantastic chance: "We were very proud when the girls won as the competition on the night was of a very high standard - it was a great event and gave the girls a unique opportunity to showcase their talent. Eadaoin and Caoimhe are very talented and I know they will be very successful. Everyone here at St. Joseph's College wishes them every success and we are looking forward to competing in Simply the Best again this Autumn".
