Shannonside Cycling Club prepares for 'Tour of the Heartlands'
Shannonside Cycling Club is currently preparing for this year's 'Tour of the Heartlands' which will take place on Sunday, April 28.
There will be two route options, the shorter route will be 60 km, the longer route will be 120 km. Support vehicles, water stops and food stops at will be provided on both routes. Changing and shower facilities will be provided at the start/finish (AIT). Food will also be provided at the finish.
Meanwhile, Meet 'N' Spin sessions continue on Thursdays at 5.30pm at The Bounty ( Dubarry Park). This is an ideal way to get back to cycling . Steady paced group spins in the local area. Some bikes are available each evening so why not give it a try and get back in the saddle in 2013. And its FREE!
Training continues on Sunday mornings at 10:00 from Athlone Regional Sports Centre (RSC). Pat Coyle continues with intensive training sessions for any Shannonside Cycling Club (SSCC) member thinking of taking part in open racing or the Midland Interclub League.
Midlands Interclub League
The first round of the Buckley Cycles Midlands Interclub League is set to take place in Mount Temple this Thursday, April 18 at 7pm. As always there will be two divisions, A-B and C-D. The D section is a great place for first time novice racers to try their hand at racing.
Participants must be a member of a MIL affiliated club and hold a Club Competition licence from Cycling Ireland. The club hopes to organise a training session to simulate the MIL race soon for members. The races range from 33-40km in distance. New members are very welcome.
Beginners and riders looking for a more leisurely spin will be given guidance. New people should ensure that their bikes are roadworthy and they must wear a helmet.
Sunday training spins depart from Athlone RSC at 10am. On Tuesday and Thursday, the club meets in the RSC car park at 6.45pm.
Please be aware that only paid up members of the club, or those with at least the standard Cycling Ireland License, are insured while taking part in the spins. Triathlon Ireland memberships are acceptable but cyclists must join SSCC if the wish to take part in training spins. Membership for new and existing members for 2013 is now due for renewal.
