Garda call on householders to secure property
Gardaí in Roscommon have issued a call on householders to heighten their attention to home security in the wake of a spate of burglaries in the south of the county over the last week. Last Wednesday Brennan"s Bakery in Clonark was the site of an attempted break-in after a person tried to gain entry in to the office part of the premises around 12.30am. However, a person in the building at the time disturbed the raider and he fled the scene with nothing. Two days later, four burglaries were reported to officers around the county, the first of which happened in the Curraghboy area. Entry was gained to a house through a back window but the culprit was disturbed at the scene around 3.15pm. Nothing was taken in that case either. Also on the same day, houses were entered in Ballyleague between 12.30pm and 1pm and between 1pm and 2pm in nearby Roscommon town. A small amount of cash was taken in the first incident. The final burglary reported on the same day happened in Ballymurray when a perpretrator got in to a house through an unlocked door before making off with a handbag containing a small amount of cash. Gardaí said there is nothing to indicate that the same party was involved in the spate of burglaries last week except the same date and the proximity of times of each incident. However, they are looking for the public"s help in relations to the crimes and anyone who noticed anything suspicious or strange cars in the areas on Friday, May 15 to get in touch with Roscommon Gardaí in confidence. Officers also urged householders to ensure that all windows and doors are locked and secured in private residences while the occupant is present and away.
