Athlone book restorer features on revamped Angelus
RTE has this week launched its new series of short films for The Angelus each evening.
Athlone book binder and restorer Declan Browne, of Liturgical Book Restorers on Main Street, has featured in one of the clips.
The film shows Declan and his colleague, Olga, as they meticulously craft and repair books, using traditional tools, materials and skills
RTE said it hopes the new series of films will broaden the appeal of the Angelus 'beyond those who have faith to those that just want to enjoy a minute of daily reflection and time out.'
Every Friday RTÉ will broadcast The People's Angelus, where members of the public and aspiring film-makers can submit their own work even if it's shot on an iPhone.
Not everyone has approved of the changes to the one-minute broadcast.
TD for Kerry, Deputy Michael Healy-Rae, said: 'I strongly condemn any change in the way the Angelus is presented, the Angelus has been with us for decades and any watering down of it should not be allowed, it is a small bit of time out of peoples lives to reflect on things that are important and it should be retained on its present format.'
